“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
- Isaiah 43:19
I think that we can forget that God is the original creator. And perhaps we often aren’t aware that He is still in the business of creating new things. The Garden of Eden wasn’t a stopping point for his creation. He loves to use the people He made to help bring those things into fruition.
Remember when we were kids and we sat at the table with a wad of playdough? We carefully pulled it apart and crafted some interesting work of art, and then, perhaps out of dissatisfaction or the need to build something else, we wadded it up and began creating something new.
I think God sometimes does this with the things we are involved with and the seasons we are in. He wads it all up and begins something new.
Sometimes, I am resistant to change. I would just rather keep the traditions and not deal with the hassle it takes to implement change. And then there is part of me that wants to solve the problems, and I know that changes are needed in order to solve them.
God wants to create new things, new creations, new starts to life. He is in the business of doing this everywhere. He is far from being a dead end and fanning broken-down systems. He really is the hope of the world, and life is flowing from Him.
I do not know where a new creation will end up—how it will feel, how it will look, or even its resting place. What I can do is take the risk of starting it and trust God to teach my heart something new through it.
Right now, my husband and I are at the beginning of something new. God has wadded up a past season and is now remodeling it into—I don’t even know what! I feel like a child walking along the bouncing diving board for the first time. The flecks of fear are there, and I am not sure about the rails being off and the deep water below me. But the Lord is standing on the side of the water, and He is cheering me on to take the risk and trust Him; He is telling me that I am ready to jump into the new thing.
Are you here with me on this? Are you in that place where you know God is reforming, starting over, and producing something new? It's both exciting and scary to trust Him fully. I would like to remind us all that the master creator has never stopped creating and loving the build-out of new things. It didn’t end at the Garden of Eden. He is still here, working in development, and boy, does He love building it out with us. Let's all relax and create with Him as He invites us to do so.
